Fifty One years ago a US Army Base had its military band reassigned for the July 4th Parade.
I was one of several musician asked to make up a substitute band by the Base Commander.
When we marched off we played "The Caissons Go Rolling Along".
They had never heard it play on the pipes before.
Five band members acted as gun crew for one of the M102 Howitzers for the fifty* gun salute.
Note A Royal Salute is 21 Guns. Sailors think it is unlucky to fire an even number of rounds.
I guess that explains it!.
